Hailing from the mean streets of Ventura, CA Richard Sears barely avoided a career as a surfer/glam metal drummer, instead opting to attend the San Francisco Art Institute where he studied filmmaking and recreational drinking.
Armed with that formidable education he worked every job to be had (except fluffer) on film sets and used this experience to make his 1995 thesis short film, An Evil Town. Based on a Charles Bukowski story, the film went on to win at the Cannes Film Festival, gaining Sears notice and launching him into the world of ad directing. After helming spots for clients such as Nike, ESPN, Sprint, Bud Light and Sony Playstation; Richard shot his first feature film entitled Bongwater starring the likes of Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy and Brittney Murphy.
Richard has continued shooting spots and recently finished post on his second feature film In The Drink. He lives with his family in California where he continues to surf.
