Having a father who worked in the ad business instilled an early passion for film artistry in Nolan’s mind. His first encounter in film came in the opportunity to assist famed Canadian documentary filmmaker Ron Mann, which led to Sarner attending McGill University where he began making documentaries of his own.
Following his graduation from McGill Nolan took the immersive leap into the Ryerson Summer Film Program that consists of thirteen weeks of six day a week comprehensive, classes and practical film experience which basically equates to four years of film training in one summer. Since then Nolan has been building his reel and developing feature projects with the intention to direct. He recently wrote and directed his short film Mortimer starring famed local actor Carlo Rota (of 24 and Little Mosque On the Prairie fame), which has been wowing festival audiences internationally.
