Always keen on making things, Jesper’s creative career started when he began exhibiting his own furniture, paintings and photos in his hometown of Falsterbo in Sweden.
After completing Swedish military service he studied drama, theatre and film at the University of Lund before taking a scriptwriting course, then bought a camera and a Ford LTD ’73 and drove all over the US shooting a documentary called Elvis.
Destitute when he returned to Sweden, he assistant directed on commercials by day, in order to work on the edit of Elvis at night. Hooked on the immediacy of commericals (not to mention the limitless cash and glamour) he teamed up with Robert Jitzmark in 1994 to form the successful directorial duo Mekano Baby.
In 1997 Jesper began directing solo and in 2004 he joined the young Swedish production company Social Club. Since then he’s shot around the world, continuing to rack up awards creating memorable work for Nissan, Honda and Toyota. A recent spot for Kinder surprise sees Jesper stuffing a sixty piece orchestra and choir into the tight confines of a house. He has been shortlisted at Cannes for the last 7 years, won Best Swedish Director at the ROY awards in 2007, and won the coveted Golden Egg for best commercial for SEB Forever Young in 2007.
Not shy of a little sojourn in front of the camera, in 2007 Jesper memorably dressed up as a chicken to warn us of the perils of alcohol abuse. After a red hot run of great work in 2008, he has hung up his directing boots until early 09, in order to serve “daddy time” after the birth of Sam, his second son. He speaks significantly better English than most English people.
