Born and raised in Armonk, New York, Ben developed an early interest in fine art, creative writing and video. While attending Cornell University he narrowed his focus to film and theatre, graduating with a full-blown addiction to 16mm filmmaking.
After school he honed an expressive yet understated visual style that landed him the cinematography job on Wet Hot American Summer. He moved to Los Angeles and shifted into directing commercials, landing clients Sony Playstation, Wrigley’s, Apple and the Georgia Lottery. He directed several short films produced by Moby and then soon after two Moby videos.
His short film “The Ball Chair” took first prize at Slam Dunk and was picked up by Comedy Central. His directing career has taken him around the globe many times, through Canada, Europe, and the Far East, developing worldwide relationships with TBWA\Chiat\Day, BBDO and a host of other ad shops. In New York and LA, he has become immersed in the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, studying UCB’s unique curriculum of improvisational theatre, shooting with many of the talented performers.
